Some years ago, everything seems to be some years ago, I watched a Western on TV. Almost and at least half an hour, because Western are not really my preferred genre on TV. Turned off TV when nothing better could happen. The highlight was a saying. A typical TV cliche saying, like "We'll get you out of there" or "Nobody will escape alive", "X and his swiss-army knife/bike/car/heli fights for justice". The movies topic were Texas Rangers. A special force under construction in the early days. Showed were how the volunteer candidates, mummy's darlings in the beginning, get their special education to become later a real upright Texas Ranger. Part of the training were hopping on horses with and without saddle while shooting at the same time. Standing on the horse while shooting simultaneously. Somehow hanging beside the horse and simultaneously shooting. And then the same story again without shooting, but with lariot throwing. |
For shooting the Texas Ranger wannabees had got of course the very best and newest weapons. Winchester firearms and single action Colts. The youngsters also got lessons. Reading, writing, jurisprudence and, we come near to my private highlight, lessons on tactics.
Jones was questioned too. Answers differed: 18? Wrong. 25? 10? All wrong. One! One Texas Ranger suffices. Then I turned off my TV. The movie couldn't become better. |
I think I've got an retentive memory.
Here is the official site of the Texas Rangers:
Texas Department of Public Safety - Courtesy, Service, Protection
It's a very large site. But you know that
everything in Texas is somewhat larger than anywhere else.
